STORM TAKE TIGHT WIN OVER CLAN

The Glasgow Clan were the visitors to the Shelter on a sold out Pink The Rink night. With the Storm needing to pick up vital league points to secure a top eight playoff place.

A largely free flowing and end to end first ten minutes passed with few golden opportunities on goal. Bow in the Clan’s net however, did make a smart stop to deny a Storm two v one breakaway. The home fans erupted at the midpoint when a shot from the point was tipped in only for the goal to be washed out upon further inspection via the video review screens. With six minutes remaining in the period the first goal did eventually come, scored by Hinam, with a big one timer from the edge of the face-off circle that whistled past Bow with helpers coming from Carroll and Hughes in the build-up play.

The home side doubled their lead six minutes in to the new period when D’Aoust tapped in at the back post after a rebounded shot fell kindly to the league’s point leader. With assists from Critchlow and Ehrhardt. Just moments later the Clan halved the deficit with a top shelf top corner finish from Sideroff who beat Tendeck glove side at the near post. Despite chances on the powerplay the Storm carried their one goal lead in to the second intermission.

The Storm came out on fire in the third period producing wave after wave of attacks. After even more sustained pressure in the offensive zone Esteves finally broke through and unleashed a rocket past Bow to put the Storm up by two. With only two minutes left in the game the Clan pulled Bow in favour of the extra forward but failed to maintain possession and turned the puck over in their own zone which left D’Aoust an easy shot on goal to make it 4-1. Late goals from Lachowicz and Sideroff made it a nervy ending for the home fans, however the Storm stood tall and held on for 2 important league points.
