STORM TAKE HEAVY LOSS AGAINST STEELERS!

A pulsating first five minutes saw the Storm pepper the visitors net with sustained pressure. The home team were rewarded for their efforts with a well taken goal after a highlight reel passing play by Ulett, Hughes and Johnson with the former finishing at the far post. The returning Critchlow came close to doubling the lead as he skated from out of the penalty box, latching on to the incoming pass but was beaten down low by DeFilippo’s pads. The Steelers equalised with a shot from the point that was rebounded out in front to Leavens who beat Weninger from close range – scored on the powerplay. The visitors added another with 5 minutes left in the opening period when Golod one timed a pass straight from the face-off.

It was all one-way traffic by the Steelers in the first exchanges of the second period and their relentless effort paid dividends when Tansey lasered a slapshot from the point to make it 1-3. The Storm responded well creating some offence of their own. Ciampini added another however for the Steelers, at the mid-point, scoring unassisted on a breakaway to go up by 3. This goal prompted a change in between the pipes as Oldale replaced Weninger. A shift in momentum was evident in the Shelter as the Storm scored their second of the night through D’Aoust who combined nicely with Martin and Garcia. A quick reply from Tansey, with his second of the game, sent the Steelers into the break with a three goal cushion.

Storm scored quickly at the start of the final period as Martin tapped in at the back post after a deflected shot from Hebert fell nicely. Another shot from the blue line caused the damage as Tansey completed his treble in fine fashion beating Weninger who regained his spot in net at the start of the period. With just a few minutes remaining in the game the Steelers killed any realistic hopes of a come back with a seventh and eighth goal scored by Ripley and Golod.
