Storm take three-point weekend on home stand
Manchester Storm went beyond 60 minutes for the second time in consecutive nights, coming out on top on Sunday, but missed the chance to go into fourth as a late equaliser rescued a point for Guildford at the Storm Shelter.
Austin Farley scored the only goal of the opening period, finishing off a pretty passing play from Joe Morrow and Zach Phillips with just under six minutes played.
That was how things stayed through both the remainder of the opening period and the whole of the second as both Evan Weninger and Taz Burman put on a goaltending master class to keep the score at just 1-0. Late in period three, Matt Alvaro took the puck in the slot and fired past Weninger to level for the Flames with just 2:28 left to play.
A point was enough to keep the Flames in fourth as the game went into overtime, where Peter Crinella should have one it but only found Weninger’s glove.
Eventually, the extra point was decided in a shootout. Zach Phillips and Tylan Hinam both scored through the first four rounds for the Storm, and with only Steven McParland netting on five Flames attempts it was Weninger who stopped the final shot to celebrate Storm’s win.
