A second period Luke Moffat hat-trick for your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm, saw us clinch victory in the final group game of the 2017/18 Challenge Cup.

With passage to the knockout stage already secure, Nottingham gave backup goaltender Sam Gospel the start against a Storm side playing for pride after seeing their chances of progression extinguished previously.

Matt Beca gave Manchester the lead after just over three and a half minutes, but a late goal from Mark Derlago just 21 seconds from the buzzer ensured the two sides entered the first intermission tied at 1-1.

The Panthers struck again shortly after the restart through Jeff Brown but three straight goals from Moffat, including a shorthanded effort in the closing moments of the period, put the Storm in control entering the final frame.

Nottingham pulled one back through Robert Farmer just under four minutes into the period, the Team GB forward scoring on the powerplay, but Matt Stanisz goal in the 52nd minute would prove to be enough to keep the Panthers at bay.
