Your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm were able to skate away from their home game against the MK Lightning with a hard-fought 3-1 win, which sees them further increase their lead in the Patton Conference.
Storm took the lead with 6:57 gone in the period, as Ciaran Long deeked Miika Wiikman to slot home behind the former Panthers netminder minder to give Storm the lead. The play flowed end to end, with Milton Keynes testing Clemente in the Storm net, but they were unable to beat the Storm’s starting netminder in the opening frame. With the clock ticking down, Ryan Trenz took the first penalty of the night with just over a minute to go in period, but stand-in Captain Luke Moffatt scored a “highlight reel” goal, shorthanded, thanks to an assist from Dane Byers, to send the Storm fans wild!
A goalless second period saw both teams battle hard, but neither were able to slot home, despite numerous chances from both sides.
The third period started out well for the disciplined Storm, with Mike Hammond grabbing the home sides third of the night with 4:49 gone in the period. The play flowed end to end with chances coming for all over the ice. With clock ticking down, MK struggled to find a way past Clemente. However, with 89 seconds to go in the third, Francis Verreault-Paul was able to grab the visitors a consolidation goal, with the extra man. But the game was all but won, and Storm skated away with the 2 points.
