It’s pink the rink night at Altrincham this Saturday 14th October as your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm take on the Dundee Stars in a 7:00 pm face off.
Mixed fortunes last weekend: It was a mixed weekend for the Storm last weekend, who traded victories with the Milton Keynes Lightning, while the Dundee Stars went down twice against the Edinburgh Capitals. Manchester travelled to Milton Keynes on Saturday night, going down 3-2 against the Lightning. Goals from Shane Bakker and Matt Beca were not enough to secure the points. Storm got their revenge the following evening as they beat Milton Keynes 6-0 at home, goals from Gerard Hanson, Matt Beca, and four from Luke Moffatt ensured the points stayed in Manchester, while Mike Clemente turned away all 24 Lightning shots for his first shutout of the season. Dundee welcomed Edinburgh to Tayside on Saturday night, but it was the Capitals who skated away with both points in a 7-2 victory. Malcolm Gould getting both of the Stars goals. Dundee travelled to Edinburgh the following evening, but it was another Capitals victory as the Stars lost 2-1. Gabriel Levesque with solitary Stars goal in what was an improved performance from the night before.
Stars add two new faces: After losing Chris Lawrence to a long-term injury, the Stars have added two new signings. Justin Fox was announced on Wednesday, but will miss the weekend’s games as he flies in next week. Brian Hart was signed a couple of weeks ago but will be making his debut in Manchester after travelling to Dundee this week. The Harvard alumnus joins after splitting last season between the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL and Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. Hart was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning as the 53rd overall pick in the 2012 NHL draft.
Special Teams: Although still early in the season, this game sees the league’s 3rd-best powerplay unit take on the 4th-best unit. Manchester have converted on 29.03% of their powerplay opportunities, while the Stars have converted on 25% of their powerplays. In the penalty kill rankings, the Storm have stopped 84.21% of the opposition powerplays and the Stars have a penalty kill ratio of 68.75%.
Not only does this game see the return of former Storm Coach Omar Pacha, and former players Adam Harding and Taylor Dickin, it’s also a great opportunity to raise money for The Christie which is a great cause, so make sure you help pink the rink!
One to watch: Swedish forward Jimmy Jensen has started the season well, scoring a point a game in the league and the cup. The former-Swedish junior international, joined after a stint in the French league.
