Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm take the long trip to Dundee as they take on the Stars in a 6:30 pm faceoff.
It was a tough night on Saturday for both sides as neither team secured a point. Storm went down 6-4 against Belfast, despite goals from Matt Beca, Nate Fleming, and a Mike Hammond double. The Stars travelled to Milton Keynes to take on the Lightning, but ultimately came short, losing 5-1. Brian Hart scored the only Stars goal, in a game that boiled over as both sides picked up two fighting majors apiece. With both sides going down last night, this game has increased in significance, as neither side will want to have a zero point weekend.
The trend of the meetings between the sides this season has been for the games to be decided by shootouts. Dundee travelled to Altrincham in mid-October with the Storm prevailing 4-3 after penalty shots. A first period blitz by the Stars saw them go 3-0 ahead in the first period, former Storm players Adam Harding and Taylor Dickin grabbing a goal each and Mimar rounding out the scoring. Storm clawed their way back through Scott Pitt, Luke Moffatt, and a late Mike Hammond goal took the game to overtime and penalty shots, Ciaran Long scoring the solitary shootout goal. The second meeting between the sides also went to a shootout, with Stars getting the extra point last time around. Dallas Ehrhardt, Matt Beca, Scott Pitt, and Mike Hammond scored the Storm goals, while goals from Brian Hart, Justin Fox, and a Joey de Concylis double taking the game to penalty shots. Marc-Olivier Mimar scored the final penalty shot to secure Dundee the victory.
The Stars have been short of players recently, due to injuries. Chris Lawrence is still out with a long-term injury, as is Anthony Mastrodicasa. Ben Edmonds is with the GB U-20 team this week, Kris Inglis and Taylor Dickin also missed out last night, and Johan Andersson has just had surgery. Chris Auger missed out again last night for the Storm, as he continues to recover from an upper-body injury.
One to watch: Gabriel Levesque is the top point scorer for the Stars this season. The Montreal-native has picked up 3 goals and 15 assists this season, and has played both defence and offence for the Stars.
