“It’s all about the fine margins and that’s what makes it fun. You have to go out and do your job and looking around, every one is beating every one and it makes for a great time of year.”
Phillips and his Manchester Storm team-mates are heading north of the border for another Gardiner Conference shootout against Ryan Finnerty’s Braehead side.
Both sides failed to win their respective games and although Clan moved to bring in forward Stefan Della Rovere, Phillips insists a new player on the other team makes no difference to their plans.
He added: “Going to Braehead is going to be a tough task. We’re looking at the standings before games, but when we step on the ice, it’s about winning for ourselves.
“We can’t control what goes on elsewhere and when we get to Glasgow, it’s just about getting the points, which is not easy. They’re well coached and have a lot of offensive weapons.
“By this time of year, you know who you’re up against usually so when a team brings in someone new, it’s a whole new dynamic and you don’t know too much about them.
“It doesn’t matter what we do. We’re focussed on what we can control. They have another player that could make a difference, but we have to stick to our processes which should make us successful.”
