Fresh from a win in Guildford earlier this week, Storm fans were treated to the first of a home double header in Altrincham on Saturday.
It was a free flowing 1st period at the Storm Shelter. With plenty of chances at both ends. Thompson was sent to the box for tripping at 16:42, allowing time for the opponents to grab the first goal of the evening. The deadlock was broken at 18:36 when Pope fired a slap shot on the powerplay just beyond the blue line, assists going to Fornier and McNamee.
The only goal of the period made the score 1-0 to Cardiff going into the first period break.
Storm equalised early in the second period after Puskarich fired the puck hitting the post and Critchlow cleared up the rebound, Sullivan also claiming an assist at 23:19
The remaining half of the period was back and forth, Storm having the better scoring opportunities through some smart plays on the first line. The period ended 1-1 with all to play for in the 3rd.
The hosts broke ahead by one goal at 50:49, when Simmonds slotted the puck between Bowns’ skate on the near post – Grewal getting the assist.
Storm almost extended their lead moments later but were thwarted by the Cardiff netminder pulling off a spectacular double save.
Bowns was pulled with just over two minutes remaining, in favour of an extra Devils skater. It wasn’t to be for the visitors, as they conceded an empty net goal at 58:50 by Fawcett, netminder Ginn being awarded the assist.
Man of match for Storm – Tyson Fawcett
Man of the match Devils – Gleason Fournier
The Manchester Storm celebrate five points from a possible six so far this week.
