Your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm skated away from our annual #PinkTheRink night with the 2 points this evening after beating the Edinburgh Capitals 6-2 in front of a packed Storm Shelter.

The game started off at a reasonably slow pace compared to what we have seen previously, but as Storm began to get settled, we started putting plenty of rubber on Fullerton in the Capitals net. Patrick Valcak was the first to grab himself a goal, when he slotted home from a Cartier pass to send the Storm Shelter, many of whom were also decked out in pink for The Christie, up to their feet with joy! The Capitals however gained ground following the Storms opening goal and Jordan Staal was able to tie things up shortly after with an excellent finish into the roof of the Storm net.

The second period saw a much improved Storm take to the ice, and despite starting the period on the back foot, it was the Storm who found themselves 3-1 up before 5 minutes of the period had gone, when Cody Cartier & Valcak both grabbed a goal each. Wilgosh of the Caps was able to add to the Capitals tally and cut the Storms lead to 1 just after the halfway mark of the game, but that was to be the last of the Caps goals for the evening. Shortly after Wilgosh’s goal for the Caps, it was Storm forward Darian Dziurzynski who reclaimed the momentum for the home side, adding a fourth goal towards the end of the period, to send the Storm into the second period intermission with a 4-2 lead.

Starting the third period on the penalty kill, the Storm were able to continue their fantastic effort on the PK to render the Capitals attack mute. Cartier was able to grab his 2nd of the night just after the 5th minute, before having another goal, and a potential hat trick, waved off for high stick moments later.

Despite this, Cartier continued in pursuit of his elusive third goal of the match, and was finally rewarded with less than 6 minutes to go in the game. Despite the continual threat, the Caps were just unable to break the Storm and their D again, and the Storm came away with a 6-2 victory over the Caps!
