Elite League: Storm 3-4 Flames (Overtime)
Your Goodwin Group Manchester Storm saw their losing streak extend to five, with a 4-3 overtime loss to Guildford Flames.
The sizeable crowd was made to wait until 12:48 for the deadlock to be broken, when a superbly deflected puck from Critchlow evaded Peeters in the Flames goal. However, the visitors didn’t take long to draw even through Ferguson, who was able to wheel around the zone before snapping a shot away on his forehand. The parity lasted less than 60 seconds when Samuelsson’s deflection restored the hosts lead, assists going to Ehrhardt and Thompson. This goal was the final of the period meaning Storm went into the first intermission leading 2-1.
The middle stanza was equally as entertaining with plenty of chances for both sides. A rasping one-timer from Abt tied things up at 29:59, after a cross-ice feed from Lindhagen. Yet, again, this tied score did not last. This time it took just 19 seconds for the Storm to regain the slender advantage. A third purposely deflected goal for the hosts was credited to Simmonds, with the helper going to Ehrhardt. The Flames drew level again before the end of the period, as Crooks was in the right place at the right time. A fortuitous bounce of the puck left Crooks with a simple task and the 3-3 scoreline persisted until the end of the period.
A tense final period saw only a handful of scoring chances produced in the twenty minutes. The Storm thought they had a game-winner with 2:37 left until the tally was overturned on a review from Paul Dixon – Flames Head Coach. Ultimately, the scoreline remained 3-3 at the end of regulation which meant both teams would take at least a point from the encounter.
A hugely entertaining overtime period saw the Flames secure the victory through Davies, as the Storm were forced to settle for a point.
