Coach’s Corner – 06/10/15
Hi Storm fans,
I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to this upcoming weekend.
This past weekend, we made some great strides forward.
I thought the boys played very well in Fife, which is a very difficult place to play. We made some costly mistakes in that first period. Though, the last 2 periods we really competed hard and left everything on the ice. On a different night, we probably would have obtained the 2 points. When you go into overtime and then a shootout it really is anybody’s game. Still, to take a point out of Fife, I’m happy overall.
Against Nottingham, we played another solid game. The Panthers are one of the most successful franchises in the entire league and we showed we could compete every minute with them.
In the first two periods we were a little unlucky only leading by one. It was the first game of the year where a goalie really stole the game against us. The guys had a tough travel the night before (getting back to the rink at 4am) but we came out very strong and played some of our best hockey of the year. Unfortunately, in the last period, we made a few mental mistakes that cost us the game. It was disappointing but it is something we will learn as a young team.
As a Coach, I am happy to see the progress made in the last few weeks. I knew it would be a difficult start with being a completely new franchise, new roster, new system to learn for the boys, a tough schedule, but I am glad to say this group is working extremely hard every day to put a winning product on the ice. From the players to all the staff members, this team is building a really HARD WORKING culture that will do everything to succeed. As a Player-Coach I am truly privileged to be part of this group and to play in front of the Storm fans.
We will work hard all week and come well prepared on Saturday when we face the Edinburgh Capitals. Saturday cannot come soon enough!!! Get your tickets and we will see you at the Storm Shelter 6:30pm on Saturday!
