BREAKING | Manchester secure services of former Kalamazoo Wings Captain Ben Wilson!
Manchester Storm are delighted to welcome blueliner Ben Wilson, most recently with ASC Corona Brasov (Erste Liga).
The vastly experienced defenceman has made 377 ECHL for Kalamazoo Wings, a franchise which he captained from 2016-20. The speedy blueliner eventually made the trip over to Europe last season and brushed shoulders with several former EIHL skaters: Carlo Finucci, Josh McFadden and Cody Carlson in Brasov. During his time in North America, Wilson made 40 AHL appearances between Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch.
Wilson has also made 138 major junior appearances for Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League and was part of the squad which were crowned league champions in the 2009-10 season. The defenceman won the Romanian league with Brasov this campaign, defeating SC Csikszereda 3-2 in a best of five series. This title avenged the play-off final defeat to SC Csikszereda in the cross-border Erste Liga.
Head Coach, Ryan Finnerty, had this to say about bringing Wilson to Manchester:
“I am delighted to be able to bring in a 10-year professional like Wilson, we have a relatively young group of blueliners this season and to have somebody with more than 500 pro games is huge for our franchise.
His leadership credentials are of a high-calibre, as not many guys are to spend that much time in one place in the East Coast…so he clearly does things the right way, both on and off the ice. The reports I have had on Ben are outstanding and he is hungry to build himself a long-term career here in Manchester.”
Welcome to Manchester, Ben!
