Manchester Storm are thrilled to announce the signing of American forward Jared VanWormer, most recently of Kansas City Mavericks (ECHL).
The experienced five-year professional has made 250 appearances in the ECHL and 14 in the AHL. During this time VanWormer has represented: Missouri Mavericks; Kansas City Mavericks; Milwaukee Admirals; Colorado Eagles; Stockton Heat; Allen Americans; Cleveland Monsters and Jacksonville Icemen.
In the 2018-19 season, VanWormer was named as an ECHL All-Star having racked up 47 points (20G 27A) in 53 games for Kansas City Mavericks. This stellar year was not a flash-in-the-pan, as VanWormer has produced three consecutive 20-goal campaigns within the ECHL and earned several AHL call-ups in the process.
Before professional hockey, VanWormer represented Ferris State University on 136 occasions, producing 60 points (25G 35A) and being named to the all-academic team on three occasions. The 2016-17 was perhaps VanWormer’s best, after being named captain, as he scored 9 goals and had 14 helpers in only 35 outings. The Michigan native will be heading to Europe for the first time in his professional career this coming season and is already pumped to pull on the Storm jersey for the first time.
Ryan Finnerty, Head Coach, had this to say about the signing of VanWormer:
“Jared comes to Manchester with a great resume; he has shared the dressing room with a good number of guys in our roster and is desperate to make an impression in a European league.
We have managed to get plenty of high-end players for their first year in Europe – before they head-off to pastures new- and Jared definitely has the potential to be another one of those guys. He has 250 games in North America which is outstanding when you think year upon year more NHL talent is filtering through the system.
He has been a captain on four occasions in his hockey career and that attribute is something we will look to draw-out in the dressing room and on the tough road trips. I know he is delighted about being able to join the Storm and cannot wait to skate out for that first time in the Shelter.”
