Alexis D’Aoust: Love, Leadership, and Life in Manchester
For Manchester Storm forward Alexis D’Aoust, life in Manchester has been a whirlwind of new experiences, cherished memories, and finding his place both on and off the ice. From adjusting to the unique charm of the city to proposing to his fiancée on a snowy winter’s night, Alexis has embraced his new chapter with open arms.
In our recent conversation, he reflected on his journey, shared personal milestones, and gave fans a glimpse of the man behind the jersey.
“It’s All So Close”
Adapting to life in Manchester has been a seamless transition for Alexis, who quickly grew fond of the city’s accessibility and charm. “The first thing I noticed was how close everything is,” he said. “You can walk to the rink, the gym, or the grocery store in just a few minutes. Coming from a place like Fort Wayne, where I had to drive 20 minutes to get anywhere, it’s such a nice change. It really saves time and makes life easier.”
Alexis also enjoys the quaint atmosphere of Altrincham, the team’s home base. “The architecture is incredible, and there are so many nice coffee spots and restaurants. It’s a great little community.”
The Road to the Pros
Like many players, Alexis’s journey to professional hockey wasn’t without its challenges. One memory that stands out is his road trip to training camp with the Utica Comets. “It was about a six- or seven-hour drive from my hometown,” he said. “I had planned to take my old 2006 car, but my mom was worried it wouldn’t make it. She let me use her newer car instead because she didn’t want me getting stuck along the way.”
That support from his family has stayed with him throughout his career. “It’s moments like that where you realize how much your family sacrifices to help you chase your dreams,” Alexis said.
Going Toe-to-Toe with the Best
Among his career highlights, Alexis recalls a surreal moment during a preseason game with the Vancouver Canucks. “I thought I had a breakaway against the Oilers,” he said. “But Connor McDavid felt like he came out of nowhere to stick-lift me. His speed is unreal—it’s something you can’t really prepare for. One second you think you’re in the clear, and the next he’s taken the puck away. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.”
These experiences—facing elite players like McDavid and grinding through the early days of his career—have shaped Alexis into the player he is today.
A Moment to Remember
While hockey dominates much of his time, Alexis shared an unforgettable off-ice milestone that will forever tie him to Manchester: his proposal to his fiancée, Lina. “It was our two-year anniversary,” Alexis recalled. “We went out for dinner in Altrincham, and as we were walking home, I stopped her halfway and asked her to marry me.”
The snowy evening made the moment all the more special. “It was so emotional,” Lina added. “I thought maybe he’d propose during dinner, but when it didn’t happen, I let it go. Then he stopped me, got down on one knee, and I just started crying. It was perfect.”
The couple is now busy planning their wedding, with the story of their engagement already a highlight in their love story.
A Leader Among Leaders
In the locker room, Alexis has found inspiration in teammate Joe Morrow, whose calm demeanor and wealth of experience make him a respected figure. “Joe’s always composed,” Alexis said. “The way he carries himself gives the team confidence. He’s played at the highest levels—NHL, KHL—and you can see that pedigree. When he speaks, the guys listen.”
Joe’s influence extends to the ice as well. “He’s not the loudest guy, but his presence and actions set the tone. He’s a great leader, and it’s been a privilege to learn from him.”
Game Day Essentials
Like many players, Alexis has his quirks when it comes to game-day rituals. “I don’t have many superstitions,” he admitted with a laugh, “but I can’t go without my bagel with peanut butter and eggs. It’s a little thing, but it gets me ready for the game.”
Looking Ahead
As Alexis continues to contribute to the Storm’s success, his appreciation for the team, the fans, and the city grows. “This place has been amazing,” he said. “The support from the fans and the community makes you want to give everything you’ve got every night. I’m just grateful to be here.”
With a blend of skill, leadership, and genuine passion for the game, Alexis D’Aoust has quickly become a fan favorite—and he’s just getting started.
