Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm are back in action this Sunday for the final, and biggest, Elite League game of the season as they host the Nottingham Panthers at the Storm Shelter in a 5:30 pm faceoff.
Games don’t get much bigger than this one; a victory for the Storm would guarantee a playoff place, anything less would require results elsewhere to go in the favour of Manchester. After Saturday’s 7-5 victory over the Flyers, Dundee have secured their place in the playoffs setting up a shootout between Storm and Blaze for the final playoff place. A victory for the Storm over Nottingham would guarantee their place in the playoffs. If Storm get 1 point, then they require Coventry to get 1 point at most. Qualification is still possible if Storm do not secure any points, however they require Coventry to also get 0 points.
It looks like it’s going to be a busy one this weekend, so make sure you get your tickets and cheer on the boys in the biggest game of the season, as the playoff push reaches its climax!
Wednesday recap: The sides faced each other on Wednesday as the Storm travelled to Nottingham in mid-week action. It turned out to be a battle of the netminders as Mike Clemente and Henry Pacl put in good performances, both making some fantastic saves during the evening. Clemente turned away 31 of 32 shots, a save percentage of 96.8%, while Pacl made 25 saves, stopping 92.0% of the shots. After a tight first period, the game opened up in the second with the sides trading goals. Jack Prince got the scoring underway, his 16th of the season, before Jeff Dimmen replied shortly afterwards. Trevor Johnson got the game-winning goal 4 minutes later, before Mario Trabucco secured the victory with a late empty-net goal.
One to watch: Wednesday night saw the return of Stanley Cup winner Jason Williams to the Panthers lineup after injury. The former Canadian international has injected some offense into the Panthers forward lines and has looked dangerous during his time in Nottingham.
