Your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm gave their #PlayOffPush hopes a major boost this evening, as they beat the “Champions of Europe”, the Nottingham Panthers, in Nottingham, by a score of 3 to 1!
The first period, whilst being goalless, saw plenty of chances for both sides. The play moved end to end with ease, and both teams took every opportunity to shoot on the opponents net, yet both Mike Clemente in the Storm net, and Jindrich Pacl in the Panthers net, stood tall for their respective sides.
The second period saw the home side come out onto the ice at the Motorpoint Arena fired up. Constant pressure saw Clemente and the Storm defence battle hard to keep the puck out of the net, and for a good 4 minutes, the majority of the play was in the Storm end. However, a quick break by the Storm, stunned the Panthers players and their fans, as they took the lead through a fantastic goal by GB International Jack Prince with 16:19 to go in the period.
Storm began to get into the swing of things, and Pacl was having to clear shot after shot. The Panthers were able to break with 10:44 to go in the period, and grab a controversial goal, scoring on Clemente – even though it appeared the Storm net was off! EIHL official Perring, following discussion with the linesmen & the timekeepers bench, awarded the goal. Undeterred, the Storm continued to press forward, and were once again able to stun the Panthers when Captain Trevor Johnson was cool, calm and collected in slotting home a beautiful goal, over the glove of Pacl, to give Storm the lead with 6:26 to go in the 2nd.
The third period, saw the play move end to end. The Panthers continued to push hard for an equalising goal – but try as they might, their shots hit either the pad of Clemente, went wide, or more nerve rackingly for the Storm fans… the metal work of the goal! With time ticking down, and whilst controlling much of the play, the Panthers pulled Pacl with 1:24 to go in the game. With an empty net waiting, Mario Trabucco was able to slot home from the blue line with 1 minute to go in the game, to give the Storm a 3-1 win, and more importantly, the 2 points.
