Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm are back in mid-week action this Wednesday, as they travel up to Glasgow to take on the Braehead Clan, facing off at 7:30 pm.
The Clan find themselves on a long home stretch, all 6 of their games in February are at the Braehead Arena. They also find themselves on top of the Gardiner conference, with 33 points from 23 games, 8 points ahead of the Storm who have played 1 game extra. In the league standings the gap between the sides is only 4 points, thanks to Storm’s superior record against Erhardt conference teams, and the Storm have 2 games in hand over the Clan.
Last Weekend: Both sides were in action at the weekend, taking on Erhardt conference opposition. The Storm started the weekend with a 5-4 overtime loss at home against the Coventry Blaze. Darian Dziurzynski, Matt Bissonnette, Patrik Valcak, and Dallas Ehrhardt got the Storm goals in a game that see-sawed one way and then the next, but it wasn’t to be for the home side as they suffered heartbreak in the extra period. It was a similar story for Braehead, who faced second-placed Belfast Giants. The Clan raced to a 2-0 lead thanks to Mike Hammond and Scott Pitt, before the Giants pegged them back with 3 straight goals. The teams traded goals twice, with Pitt and Hammond both getting their second of the game, but the Clan ultimately fell short 5-4. Manchester travelled to Cardiff on Sunday, but were on the wrong side of a 5-3 scoreline, Jack Prince getting the Storm opener and Matt Bissonnette taking his weekend’s tally to 3 with a double. Cardiff sealed the victory with late empty-net goal.
Clan – Storm this year: Both games between the sides at the Braehead Arena have ended 2-1, with each team claiming a victory apiece. The first meeting in Glasgow resulted in a victory for the Storm, Matt Keith grabbing the Clan opener before a Darian Dziurzynski double secured both points went back to Manchester. Storm travelled back up to Braehead 2 and a half weeks ago and it was the turn of the Clan to take a 2-1 victory. Mike Hammond and Scott Pitt getting the Clan goals before a Eric Neilson reduced the deficit to 2 goals. The overall record between the sides this season stands at 2 victories for the Storm and 4 victories for the Clan.
New Signing for the Clan: The Clan have bought in injury cover in the form of former St Louis Blues forward Stefan Della Rovere. The 5’11” forward joins from Italian side Fassa, who missed out on the playoffs in the Alps Hockey League, and scored 12 goals and 18 assists in 21 games for the Falcons. The Clan aim to have in the lineup for Wednesday’s game.
Form: Storm have 2 wins and 1 OT loss in their last 5 games, while the Clan have 3 victories and 1 loss in penalty shots.
One to watch: Forward Scott Pitt is on a 6-game scoring streak, posting 6 goals and 7 assists during the run.
