Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm are back at the Storm Shelter on both Saturday & Sunday this weeking, firstly taking on the Braehead Clan at 7pm on Saturday in Gardiner Conference action.
The teams are well acquainted this season, facing off against each other 3 times already. The last meeting between the two teams was last weekend at the Storm Shelter, where the Clan skated away with a 5-2 victory over an injury-depleted Storm team. Kyle Wharton, Matt Haywood, Alex Leavitt, and Scott Pitt getting the goals for the Clan, with Omar Pacha and Taylor Dickin getting the Storm goals.
The first meeting between the teams resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Storm in Glasgow, Darian Dziurzynski scoring a double and Clemente making 30 saves, whilst the second matchup ended in a 5-3 victory for the Clan, goals from Eric Neilson, Cody Cartier, and Mario Trabucco were not enough to secure victory for the Storm, as Alex Leavitt secured the victory with an empty net goal.
After last Saturday’s game between the teams, both clubs suffered losses on the Sunday. Braehead went down in Coventry 3-2, Clan goals from Scott Pitt and Matt Beca were not to secure victory. The Storm travelled to Cardiff for what was in essence a dead rubber Challenge Cup game, having already secured qualification. After losing Eric Neilson to an horrific eye injury on Saturday night, the Storm put in a spirited performance before eventually relenting to a 5-3 loss. Mark Heatley scored a double, and Jack Prince took his tally to 4 goals for the season, whilst backup netminder Phil Spanswick started his first game for the Storm.
This weekend will see Adam Harding and Darian Dziurzynski return to the lineup, providing a much needed boost for the Storm. Both players have been big losses whilst on the injury list, and should provide some extra offense this weekend in what are two huge conference match-ups.
ONE TO WATCH: Alex Leavitt scored a double at the Storm Shelter last weekend, and was the top points scored for the Clan last season. A reliable goalscorer, the Storm defencemen will have to keep their eyes on him throughout the game
