Your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm fell to the Fife Flyers this evening in a feisty game in front of a very busy Storm Shelter here at Silverblades ice rink, Altrincham.
The first period saw the Flyers, who were supported by 200 travelling fans, went 1 up early when TJ Caig bagged himself a 3-on-5 pp goal just shy of the 5th minute. This was followed up by some fantastic stick work by the Flyers who left the Storm high and dry for most of the period. The Flyers bagged their 2nd of the evening when Patrick Cullen scored just after the 15th minute, due to the Storm turning the puck over in their own end.
The second period saw the Storm pull one back early, when Patrik Valcak blasted one past Brown in the Flyers net, thanks to a beautiful assist by Matty Davies. The Flyers one goal lead didn’t last long however, as TJ Caig grabbed his second of the night less than 2 minutes later to put the Flyers 2-1 up. This flood gates then opened for the Flyers, who pounced on a lacklustre Storm side, scoring two further goals in the 2nd thanks to Shayne Stockton and Patrick Cullen bagging his second.
The third period didn’t fair much better for the Storm as they conceded 3 goals in a 6 minute period to go 8-1 down with 7 minutes left to play. Paul Swindlehurst was able to grab the Storms second with 3:14 left on the clock, but it was too little to late for the Storm, as the Flyers had already won the game.
The Storm are still very much in the play-off hunt, and next Sunday’s home game vs Braehead Clan (5pm) is now a huge game for the club in trying to secure that final play-off position.
Final Score: Manchester Storm 2-8 Fife Flyers
