STORM OUTSHOOT CLAN BUT FALL TO DEFEAT INSIDE STORM SHELTER
The Glasgow Clan were the visitors to the Shelter on Saturday evening, the Clan were full of confidence having beat last year’s treble winning side the previous night.
The Storm struck very early, with less than two minutes on the clock, when Martan poked the puck home at the back door after Johnson’s wrist shot rebounded nicely and found its way to the Canadian forwards stick.
The home team continued to pile on the pressure looking to extend their lead – Merchant would come closest after driving to the net with some nifty stick handling but Karjalainen stood firm to thwart the effort. Despite some good looks on goal for both teams a rare penalty free period ended with just the one goal and the Storm taking the lead on the shot clock too.
The Clan opened the scoring, through Lachowicz, in the second period with a goal that went to a video review to check wether the puck had fully crossed the goal line. Glasgow took the lead not long after when Cownie pounced on Petryk’s shot to slot away the rebound. Haarala quickly equalised however with a well worked powerplay goal that was assisted by Morrow and Murphy. Two quick fire goals scored by Lynch (one powerplay and one shorthanded) put the Clan 4-2 ahead at the end of a busy second period.
The Storm were afforded a long powerplay opportunity at the mid point of the period with Soll sitting a two plus two penalty for high sticking and Stevenson a roughing minor. Despite multiple shots on Karjalainen the powerplay unit couldn’t take advantage and the visitors maintained their 2 goal cushion.
A big final 5 minutes was needed for the Storm to try and gain anything from the game. With the netminder pulled, and again peppering the Clan’s goal the Storm just couldn’t find a way to put the puck away. A solid road game saw the visitors take the two points back up to Glasgow with a 4-2 scoreline.
