Manchester Storm are delighted to confirm the addition of 6ft3 blueliner Callum Fryer, most recently of Norfolk Admirals (ECHL).

Born in Rugby, Warwickshire – Fryer is no stranger to the UK. However, with no junior hockey played this side of the pond the defender’s EIHL status is that of an import player.

In 2014, Fryer was named within Team Canada East squad for the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge. The defencemen was the sole Canadian player to be included within the All-Star Team for the tournament. As a result of this, Fryer was invited to participate in Tornoto Maple Leafs prospects camp in 2015.

Later in 2015, Fryer would join UMass of NCAA and in his freshmen year would find himself paired with current NHLer William Lagesson. The defencemen would make a total of 57 appearances for Massachusetts.

Fryer would then transfer to Lakehead University of USports to continue his playing and studies. From 2017-2020, Fryer would play on 68 occasions producing 3 goals and 11 assists for Lakehead.

The young defender debuted with Toledo Walleye (ECHL) in late 2020 before moving to Knoxville Ice Bears (SPHL) for the 2020-21 season.

A year in Knoxville helped Fryer improve his all-round game as he signed back in the ECHL with Rapid City Rush.

Last year was a hugely impressive one for Fryer – who was included in the ECHL All-Star and took home the title for the Hardest Shot, clocking in at 97mph.

Head Coach, Matt Ginn, had this to say about securing the signature of Fryer: “I’m happy to add Callum to our group. He is a big and long defenceman that is hard to play against. He uses his length very well on the PK and for a player his size, he is an excellent skater. Callum has a lot of pro experience that he will bring to our back end. He was very eager to come to Manchester and his hard nosed and physical style will endear him to fans right away.

New signing, Callum Fryer commented: “I’m super excited to be playing for the Manchester Storm with Coach Ginn in the 2023-2024 season. For a few years now it’s been a goal of mine to get over to England and play in my home country in front of friends and family. And to do it in front Manchester fans will be electric!! Cant wait for this opportunity to show my skills and compete level on the ice to help Manchester become a top team in the EIHL.
