Manchester Storm are proud to announce the addition of forward Johnny Corneil, most recently of Ringerike (Norway).  

The highly-skilled forward is a product of the infamously competitive OHL major junior system – representing Niagara IceDogs from 2013-2018.  

This five-year tenure would be a highly successful one, as the IceDogs would make the play-offs in all five of Corneil’s seasons with the club. Furthermore, the talented forward was awarded the captaincy in his senior year – within a roster that was littered with NHL prospects. In 290 OHL appearances for Niagara, Corneil posted 80 goals and 95 assists.  

The now well-defined route from USports into the Elite League will be extended for another season with the addition of Corneil – who attended Acadia University from 2018-2022. In 77 USports matches for Acadia, Corneil tallied 18 goals and 20 assists before stepping into the professional game

Corneil was close to upping with several sides within the Elite League – before ultimately making the decision to sign with Ringerike in Norway’s top flight. An impressive rookie season with the Norwegian outfit, whom were coincidently the former employers of Brett Perlini, recaptured the adoration of multiple Elite League suitors this off-season. In 43 games, Corneil had 17 goals and 15 assists – which was good enough for second overall in total points for an otherwise struggling Ringerike.  

After fighting off significant competition, Matt Ginn commented on his newest recruit: “Johnny had a very good first pro season in Norway last year. He is a solid all around player that can play centre and on the wing. Johnny is another former captain and a great leader and teammate. I expect him to come in and make an impact on both sides of the puck for us. I’m excited to add Johnny to our group.”

 The Norwegian club play out of an arena with less than 600 seats available and the partisan atmosphere of the Storm Shelter was a contributing factor for Corneil opting to sign in Manchester. The new forward had this to say: 

“I am very excited to join the Storm this season. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Manchester as a city and a place to play hockey. I’m looking forward to September and can’t wait to get going!”
