Fife Flyers bounced back from a 7-1 defeat in Cardiff on Saturday night to take a shootout win over Manchester Storm, making it two wins from three for the week. Storm, meanwhile, picked up three points out of four in Week 21.

It was a goal-fest of an opening period in Kirkcaldy with five being scored in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Zack Phillips made the most of the extra time and space afforded to him in the slot on the powerplay to open the scoring at 4:21, but only 22 seconds later former Flyer Liam Blackburn had the Storm level. Blackburn then found Tyler Barrow at the back post to put Storm ahead on the powerplay at 12:07, but a Janne Kivilahti powerplay marker tied the game at 14:58. Fife would lead at the break thanks to Kivilahti squeezing one through Jeremy Brodeur. The Storm goalie, however, made an excellent stick save during the opening period to keep the Flyers at bay.

Powerplay goals proved crucial in period two, with the Storm taking the lead thanks to a pair of them. Dallas Ehrhardt tied things up at 26:16, followed by TRyosn Fawcett putting the visitors back into the lead at 35:35.

Manchester looked to be heading into sixth place with the win but Fife were level 2:44 from the end – a Jonas Emmerdahl pass deflecting into Brodeur’s net off Kamerin Nault’s skate.

With no goals in overtime, a shootout decided the extra point. Fife took it thanks to a winner in Round 4 from Brayden Sherninen and Shane Owen then denying Jonathan Desbiens at the other end. Barrow and Dillon Lawrence were the other scorers.
