BREAKING | Manchester Bring in 6ft 7 defenceman to bolster blueline
Manchester Storm are excited to announce the signing of blueliner Marc McNulty, most recently of Fehérvári Titánok (Erste Liga).
The 26-year-old Canadian was drafted by Detroit Red Wings in 2013 (169th overall) and standing at a towering 6ft7, McNulty is unsurprisingly known for his body-first defensive style.
The defenceman developed his craft in the highly competitive WHL junior league with Prince George Cougars; Kamloops Blazers and Moose Jaw Warriors. From 2012-2016, McNulty amassed 264 WHL appearances and produced an impressive 43 goals and 93 assists during this period.
Once the blueliner had completed his junior hockey programmes, he went on to sign with Acadia University of the USports division. The Canadian skater iced for the university on 75 occasions and fashioned 31 points (14G 17A).
Upon the completion of his studies, McNulty headed to the Hungarian outfit of Fehérvári Titánok for his first professional campaign. The cross-border Erste Liga was impacted by the global pandemic in 2020-21, but McNulty still managed 24 points (5G 19A) in 35 games
Head Coach, Ryan Finnerty, had this to say about the towering defenceman:
“The physique of Marc and our small icesheet are a perfect match…you only have to look at somebody like Dallas and how well he plays week in, week out in Manchester. I really wanted to solidify our blueline group after last season and I know Marc is comfortable logging big minutes on a nightly basis.
He was the joint top points scorer for his team last year and I know he can quarterback a powerplay unit comfortably, so it does take some pressure off Dally in that department and brings an extra dimension to the line-up.
He has already done plenty of research about the league and city, so he will be well-prepared before he skates out in the new season. I am super happy about bringing in Marc and at just 26, he is still eager to learn everyday and advance his game within the professional leagues.”
Welcome to Manchester, Marc!
