This Sunday will be the first time, Glasgow Clan visit the Storm Shelter as part of the 2019/20 EIHL campaign. Can we expect a feisty first encounter?
The 2017/18 season saw some changes between both teams when the new Storm Head Coach, Ryan Finnerty signed Scott Pitt, Matt Beca, Mike Hammond and Jay Rosehill to the squad.
April 2018 saw Pete Russell (Also Head Coach of GB) appointed as Glasgow Clan’s Head Coach for the 2018/19 season. This saw Beca and Pitt heading back to Glasgow. In May 2018 Swedish forward, Gerard Hansen traded to Clan from the Storm, with Canadian defenceman Matt Stanisz following just weeks later.
Whilst the Storm kept hold of some of it’s key players for the 2018/19 season, including Hammond; the Clan signed none other than solid defenceman, Travis Ehrhardt…brother of Dallas Ehrhardt.
This Summer has been an interesting one for sure. Pete Russell left Clan to start his new career in the DEL2 to coach EHC Freiburg. His replacement was none other than former Clan and Sheffield Steelers player…Zack Fitzgerald. Originally brought into the EIHL by Ryan Finnerty, the tough defenceman spent a season with Clan before three seasons with the Steelers as Alternate Captain. Fitzy had one season as Captain at Clan (2018/19) before being appointed as Head Coach. Both known for signing similar players to their rosters this summer, this Sunday will see Fitzy and Finnerty face as opponents.
Summer 2019 has seen some further changes made between both teams. British defenceman Zach Sullivan was released from Clan. Finnerty, who helped kick-start his pro career in 2014/15, signed him shortly after and gave him a home at Storm. Things have been going well for the Brit so far at Storm.
Let’s not forget to mention Canadian defenceman, Linden Springer. Announced to stay at the Storm for the 2019/20 season, the feisty defenceman took an offer at the Clan. Shortly after learning of his decision to leave the club, head coach Ryan Finnerty looked to move for a replacement and signed now fan favourite, Mathieu Gagnon. This will be the first time Linden Springer will be face to face with his former team. Will it be a highly-strung encounter? Find out this weekend!
Expect a highly competitive game between the two sides this Sunday. Make sure you wear the colours and let’s pack the Storm Shelter. Doors open at 16:30 for a 17:30 face-off.
