Last night, your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm got their home form back on track, taking the win against visitors the Dundee Stars, in what was a crucial game in the run up to playoffs.

Storm were the first team to be handed a penalty, Long for tripping eight seconds into play. At 12:25, Marquardt was given the first Stars penalty for high-sticking. In the final two minutes of the 1st period, Hammond was sent to the box for tripping.

After twenty minutes of play, the first period sat scoreless. Spectators were given some competitive end to end hockey, neither netminder giving up the first goal. It was Stars who took the upper hand in those twenty minutes, with two powerplay opportunities and an impressive 21 shots on goal, Storm with 11.

The second was the main event for the two teams, with spectators being treated to five goals. It was Hammond who broke the deadlock, scoring for Storm with a top shelf slap shot a few minutes in at 22:54 – the assists from Linsmayer and Long.

Stars received a bench penalty for too many men at 23:57, Storm not managing to put the scoreline up by two on their powerplay, Sjogen making the necessary saves.

Storm’s second goal of the evening appeared at 26:34, scored on a wrist shot from the circle by Stadel, Braid and Linsmayer taking the assists.

Stars’, Andersson was sent to the penalty box for slashing halfway into the second period for slashing, giving Storm another powerplay opportunity. Bakker then sat two minutes for interference at 33:17, both teams held up strong defensive plays, neither managing to up the scoreline.

It was just moments later when Storm found their third goal at 35:38, when Auger put the puck past Sjogen, assisted by Macmillan and Byers. Just 42 seconds later, the comfortable 3-0 gap began to close, as Marquardt scored on his own rebound past Ginn.

Stars pushed forward on a powerplay opportunity when Balmer was sent to the penalty box for slashing at 37:12. They narrowed the scoreline two just one goal difference, Hart claiming their second goal at 38:04, assisted by Marquardt and Corcoran.

The final twenty minutes showcased some fast-paced physical hockey. With end to end hockey, the scoreline could have gone either way.

At 54:53, Poulin was handed a two minute penalty for interference, giving Stars the upper hand -Ginn pulling off some spectacular saves on the penalty kill.

Both teams used their time-out, and the final minutes of play were tense, as Sjogen was pulled in hopes of Stars scoring the equaliser. In what was a critical game the Storm, they put their home form back on track, taking the win 3-2 in regular time.
