Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm are back in home action this Saturday 10th March as the Fife Flyers travel to the Storm Shelter in a 7:00 pm faceoff.
The Flyers, who were in action Friday night against Dundee, have been struggling with injuries recently since securing the Gardiner Conference title. The Flyers were missing Andy Iles, Ian Young, Danick Gauthier, and Evan Bloodoff last Saturday when the Storm travelled up to Kirkcaldy, while Liam Heelis has also picked up an injury since then, however both Heelis and Iles were back in action against the Stars last night. The Flyers raced out to a 2-0 lead in that game, with Chase Schaber and Jim Jorgensen scoring in the first 8 and a half minutes. Storm got on the board in the first through Ciaran Long, taking his season tally to 16. Second period goals from Mike Hammond, Declan Balmer, and Dallas Ehrhardt swung the game in favour of the Storm, before Hammond secured the points with a late empty-net goal. This is the final meeting between the sides in the regular season, with the Storm currently having the advantage winning 2 games to 1, with previous results ending 3-2 in favour of the Storm in Altrincham and 6-2 in favour of the Flyers in Kirkcaldy.
As the league moves into its final few weeks, there’s still plenty to play for as teams try to finish as high up as possible. There’s still only 9 points separating second-placed Storm and seventh-placed Nottingham Panthers. Nottingham have 2 games in hand over the Storm, and all of the other teams between the Storm and the Panthers have a game in hand over the Storm. The Devils still sit top of the league, with 8 points more than the Storm and a game in hand. Momentum will be key as the sides move into the playoffs, and all teams will be battling hard until the end.
It looks like this game is going to be busy, with less than 200 tickets remaining, so make sure you get your ticket fast!
One to watch: Chase Schaber returned to the Flyers this season for his second season in Fife and has been in top form this season, exceeding his previous seasons points tally by 15 points in 1 game fewer.
