REPORT: Storm on Cloud 9 with a 9-1 win over the Blaze!

Your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm were on Cloud 9 this evening, with 3 goals in each of the games periods, to a 9-1 win over the Coventry Blaze at Planet Ice Altrincham this evening.
Storm got on the board with less than 80 seconds played in the 1st period, when Ciaran Long poped the puck past Nastiuk for a beautiful first goal for the home side. Despite a couple close calls following the goal, the Blaze were unable to find a quick reply to the Storm’s opener, and Dane Byers grabbed another goal for the home side with 12:25 gone in the 1st. Mike Hammond grabbed his first of the night 29 seconds later, to put the Storm 3-0 up.
Hammond grabbed his second of the night, when he slotted home with 3:43 gone in the 2nd, despite the efforts of the Blaze defense to halt the Storm’s clinical attack. End to end the play went for the next 12 minutes, but it was Storm who once again clocked the next goal, with Dane Byers grabbing a beautiful powerplay goal. Matt Beca grabbed the next goal for the Storm, with 34s remaining in the period, to give Storm a 6-0 lead going into the final period.
Blaze were finally able to give their fans something to cheer about, with a goal from Jordan Pietrus with just shy of 5 minutes gone in the final period. However, minutes later Mike Hammond recorded a hat-trick goal with 7:02 gone in the period. Just over 5 minutes later, Hammond grabbed his 4th (and final) goal of the night with 13:31 gone in the period. Scott Pitt rounded off the scoring for Storm with a goal with 15:56 gone in the 3rd.
