On New Years Day, Mark Cowell took his place on the Storm bench after winning the Official Supporters Club “Golden Ticket” raffle. Check out his blog regarding the day below:

I genuinely couldn’t believe I was going to sit on the Manchester Storm bench during the New Years Day game. Not just any game; the largest attended game of the season against our biggest rivals. (Coincidentally my first game watching Manchester Storm after reforming was exactly two years earlier. Never in a million years did I think I would be on the bench just two years later).

Let’s be honest, we all dream of being apart of our team in someway. When we realize we are probably too old and can’t skate we look at different elements of the team to get involved in whether that’s volunteering, attending the excellent events the OSC puts together or watching the team week in week out; we love this team and want to feel apart of it. For myself being a Business Coach I love to see people grow and develop. So winning The Golden Ticket was like a dream come true.

Wanting to look the part I wore a suit, with a purple tie and OSC Members badge. For fun I brought along some gameplay tactics to help our team; “Slingshot Moff” “Byers Backhand” and the “Flying V” were admired by Finner but unfortunately not used during the game. Which was probably a good thing!

Not to give too much away as we don’t want our tactics getting into the wrong hands; I was able to observe constant motivational and developmental feedback between the Finnerty/Morin combination to drive our teams performance on the night.

Kip and the bench team were constantly supporting our players making sure their equipment, bodies and safety were 100%, nothing was too much for these guys.

What was great to see was that the players truly had each others backs constantly communicating defensive and scoring opportunities.

As a Business Coach this is what we look for to see how motivated and engaged people are and trust me our team wanted this win!

Hearing the “We’re Manchester Storm” chant echo into the box and raise the teams energy and spirits was something really special.

I was welcomed into a sacred place for an opportunity of a lifetime. I got a picture with my favorite player (Bakkesy baby) and an experience I will never forget. Thank you to everyone involved. I can’t wait to try and win the next one!
