Your Goodwin Group Manchester Storm, for the second game in a row won 4-3, after penalty shots, against Nottingham Panthers.

An entertaining first period saw both sides pressing high-up the ice and subsequently generating multiple scoring chances. Although, it was the visitors, Nottingham Panthers that took the lead through their talismanic captain Herr. A failed zone clearance from the Storm cost them dearly, as the experienced pair of Talbot and Matheson combined to set-up Herr on the doorstep. However, this lead lasted just over two minutes. This time it was the hosts that profited from a failed zone exit. An excellent piece of positioning enabled Fawcett to maintain the attacking territory before sliding the puck across to Braes. He was able to find Samuelson in the slot, who snapped a puck a shot beyond Carr in the Panthers goal. The Storm took the lead through Melton, as the young American controlled a bobbling puck expertly before converting from the wing at 17:35.

The middle stanza was largely dominated by the Panthers, with the aforementioned Herr leading the charge, as he punished some lack Storm zone coverage at 23:49. Excellent goaltending from Ginn prevented the visitors from taking the lead. A late powerplay opportunity was gifted to the hosts, through a poor play from Horvat. Another failed zone clearance landed straight on Melton’s stick and the in-form forward confidently put the puck beyond Carr. This goal sent the Storm into the second intermission 3-2 ahead, somewhat fortuitously.

The Panthers eventually drew level in the third period through Matheson, on the powerplay, as his precise slap shot evaded everyone at 52:11. However, this was the only scoring of the period as a cagey finish ensured both teams would be taking at least a point from the encounter when the final buzzer sounded with scores tied at 3 apiece.

The overtime period was end-to-end with multiple scoring chances turned aside by both goaltenders. However, neither side could muster a goal so for the second home game in a row at the Shelter the game would go to penalty shots. The hosts made it with back-to-back penalty shot victories with goals from Fawcett and Ulmer enough to take the two points.
