This Saturday (Dec 3rd), your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm will be asking YOU the fantastic Storm fans to launch a teddy bear onto the ice immediately following the Storms first goal, with all the donated teddy bears being given to Key103’s #MissionChristmas!

But what exactly is a Teddy Bear Toss?

The first reordered “Teddy Bear Toss” was held by Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League of Canada back in the 1993-94 season. Since then the event has been hosted by numerous teams all around the world.

The idea  Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to the game, and to throw them onto the ice when the home team scores its first goal. The toys are then gathered up to be donated as Christmas presents to hospitals or charities.

The Calgary Hitmen are the current record holders for bears thrown during a game when 19,289 fans launched 28,815 stuffed animals onto the ice following Jordy Stallard’s second period goal against the Swift Current Broncos in their 2–1 shootout victory.

The Elite League have been a late comer to the world of “teddy bear tossing”, but this season sees all teams across the league hosting an event. The Edinburgh Capitals have already hosted their Teddy Bear Toss last weekend, where over 700 teddy bears landed on the ice at Murrayfield Ice Rink!
