Your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm are delighted to announce that the home game on Wednesday 14th February at 7:30 pm against the Coventry Blaze, will see your Storm take to the ice in special jerseys in support of blood donation, as we ask fans to #GiveAGiftFromTheHeart this Valentines Day!

With over 6,000 people needing to give blood every day to meet the needs of hospitals and patients around the United Kingdom, and thousands more needed to give platelets to places such as The Christie, NHS Blood and Transplant needs new donors year to ensure hospital patients do not go without lifesaving blood.

In early February, members of your Manchester Storm will visit the NHS Blood and Transplant donor centre and labs at their Plymouth Grove base to see the fantastic work that is done, before donating themselves.

Karen Ackerley, Plymouth Grove Donor Centre Manager at NHS Blood and Transplant, said:

“Blood donation is vital and regularly saves the lives of hospital patients in Greater Manchester.

“Manchester donor centres need to collect around 600 units of blood each week to ensure hospital demands are met.

“This year we are asking people of Manchester to focus on giving and to register to give blood.

“We need new donors of all ages to come forward to replace donors who cannot donate anymore. Half of all donors are over 45, so it’s important we recruit more young people to donate blood, to help meet patient needs now and in the future.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Manchester Storm for their support. Hockey is a tough sport where the players give blood for their team. We are so pleased they are giving blood for hospital patients too.”

Jamie Tunstall, Managing Director of the Manchester Storm, couldn’t be happier that the club is once again giving back to the local community, commenting;

“We couldn’t be prouder to help NHS Blood and Transplant help to get the message out to all the Storm fans, that new donors are needed each and every year. I know the Team are thrilled to be taking part in something that has helped to save millions of lives.”

Further information about the event, and how to get your hands on one of the #LimitedEdition jerseys, will be revealed in due course!
