Your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm came away from Planet Ice Coventry with a 4-2 win against conference rivals the Coventry Blaze.

The first period saw end to end hockey taking place, with both teams giving their oppositions netminder a real test. Mike Clemente in the Storm’s net was tested numerous times by the hosts, but it was Storm who were able to beat the oppositions keeper, with Scott Pitt grabbing the opening goal with 5:09 played in the game, thanks to a Mike Hammond & Matt Beca assist! Try as they might the blaze were unable to pull one back in the opening frame, and Pitts goal was the lone one in the first 20 minutes.

1:10 into the 2nd, the Coventry Blaze were finally able to get on the board thanks to a goal by Jordan Pietrus who went top shelf over the shoulder of Clemente, cauing Teddy Bears to rain down onto the ice for the Blaze’s #AirTheBear night! Storm began to dominate the play following this an  Scott Pitt grabbed his second of the night with 8:48 played, another beautiful goal at a tight angle, assisted once again by Beca and Hammond.

With the play on the ice becoming more physical, and the clock ticking down in the 2nd, Storm’s Luke Moffatt grabbed the third goal for the visiting Storm with 15:02 gone in the period, well and truly beating Nastiuk in the Blaze net. Almost 7 minutes of consecutive penalties followed for the Storm, which they dealt with brilliantly to end the second 3-1 up over the Blaze.

The third period saw the Blaze pull one back early in the period again, with Vallerand grabbing the goal from a Kevin Noble assist. The play continued to flow end to end, much like the first, but it was the Storm who grabbed the next goal – this time from Mike Hammond, whose lighting quick reflexes allowed him to pounce on a point-blank rebound and slot home. A scuffled between Rosehill and Noble before the end of the game rounded off a fantastic night on the road for the Storm, which sees them stay in the top 5 of the league with 27 points, tied on points with Sheffield and Cardiff!
