Sean Bentivoglio’s overtime goal made the difference for Cardiff Devils, who took a 4-3 victory over your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm.

It was a big win for the reigning champions, who had to battle hard to clinch the two points this evening. Storm looked to get the early advantage on the visiting champions and got it halfway through the first period when they made the breakthrough, with Luke Moffatt playing an excellent pass for Dane Byers, who made the finish to put the home side ahead.

They hoped to hold on until the interval, but the Devils got themselves level in the final minutes as Gleason Fournier got a marker on the powerplay, before he added a second with seconds remaining in the period to give the visitors the lead at the end of the first.

Despite plenty of chances, the second saw no goals as both sides tested each other’s netminder. The next goal didn’t come until the third period as Paul Swindlehurst pulled Storm level five minutes into the final period, with the puck once again being sent with a fantastic assist.

A dramatic final few minutes of the third saw the Cardiff take the lead with just over 2 minutes left to play, giving them what they thought was the winner. However, Byers latched onto a loose puck whilst on a delayed penalty to send the home crowd & to send the game to overtime, where the Devil’s Bentivoglio struck home on a botched line change for Storm, giving his side a vital 2 points.
