Your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm surrendered an early lead to the Belfast Giants to go down 6-4 on a cold night at the Planet Ice Altrincham!

Storm took the lead with five to go in the first period when Matt Beca fed Mike Hammond from a Scott Pitt pass, with Hammond working his magic to slot home. Despite the end to end hockey, there was no more scoring in the first.

The visiting Giants equalized early in the second period with Jim Vandermeer scoring from the blueline to tie the game. They then went ahead a couple of minutes later thanks to David Rutherford, before Sebastien Sylvestre struck home to give the visitors a 2 goal lead.

Nate Fleming was able to pull one back off a rebound on the powerplay after an initial effort from Gerard Hanson went loose. Before Hammond grabbed his second of the game, slipping one past Whistle to tie the game at three apiece. The Giants found themselves in the lead once again with seconds left in the second period as Blair Riley fired one in shorthanded.

Storm then started the 3rd period the best way possible, with Matt Beca grabbing the home sides 4th of the game, but with the clocking tick down, Belfast were able to find another gear that proved to be enough in the end, with Riley’s second with 75 seconds looked to be enough, but the Giants then made sure of a win with an empty-netter by Steve Saviano.

Storm now look ahead to tomorrow’s away game against the Dundee Stars, F/O 6:30pm at the Dundee Ice Arena.
