Your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm came away from the penulimate Challenege Cup game with a 3-1 loss over the Sheffield Steelers.

The first period saw plenty of chance for both sides, with the Steelers controling much of the play. It wasn’t until late in the period, when the Steelers Levi Nelson sloted past Mike Clemente in the Storm’s net to give the home side the lead.

Storm came out into the second period much more determined, and this was clear to see with the amount of time spent on the puck. A constant wave of attacks were brought to a stand still by Ervins Mustukovs. However, a momentary lack of concentration by the Steelers, saw Storm’s Ciaran Long break through the home side defence for a breakawy goal, much to the delight of the 200 + travelling fans!

The Steelers restored their lead with less than 60s gone after the Storm’s goal, when Andreas Jämtin slotted home. Despite the Storm thinking he was in the crease when the goal was scored, a goal line review determined he was not, and the goal stood.

The final period saw the Steelers grab a 3rd goal of the game, thanks to an “illegal equipment” penalty to eventual Man of the Match, Shane Bakker, with Andre Deveaux the man who converted. The Storm continued to push hard for a second, but the Steeler’s Mustukovs denied every chance the Storm had.

Storm now turn their attention to tomorrow night, Mike Morin’s jersey retirement night against the MK Lightning.
