For the third week in a row your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm take on the Guildford Flames this Sunday 25th February in a 6:00 pm faceoff in Surrey.

The Storm have had the advantage in previous two games, shutting out the Flames at home two weeks ago before overcoming the Flames in a shootout last weekend. The Storm won 3-0 at the Storm Shelter, in the final visit by the Flames to Altrincham. Goals from Dallas Ehrhardt, Matt Beca, and Ciaran Long secured the points for the Storm, while Mike Clemente turned away all 21 Flames shots for his 3rd shutout of the season and his 6th in the Elite League. The following week saw a much tighter game between the sides in a game that went all the way to a shootout. Matt Beca, Dane Byers, and Luke Moffatt gave the Storm a 3-0 lead after 23 minutes, but the Flames fought back thanks to Ian Watters, Mikael Lidhammar, and Kruise Reddick. There was no further scoring in the game, and the points went home with the Storm after Mike Hammond scored a hattrick of penalty shots.

After the Flames’ overtime loss against the Blaze last night, the Storm are 11 points ahead of the Flames in the conference, however the Flames still have 5 games in hand. Manchester have 3 conference games left, two of which are against the Flames which will be key in deciding the fate of the conference title. Last week’s victory over the Flames took the record to 5 wins to 1 in favour of the Storm, however the Flames have taken 2 of those losses to overtime. Mike Hammond was the game winner last week and has enjoyed playing against the Flames, racking up 13 points in the 6 meetings. John Dunbar leads the Flames in scoring, with 8 points in 6 games.

One to watch: Defenceman Calle Ackered scored 2 goals last night against the Blaze, taking his total to 17 goals and 36 assists in 46 league games. After a lightning start to the season, the Swede might be starting to hit form again just in time for the playoffs.
