Your Go Goodwins sponsored are back at the Storm Shelter this Friday 22nd December for a 7:30 pm faceoff against fellow Patton Conference rivals Guildford Flames.

The Flames are coming into the game off the back of a Challenge Cup quarter final matchup against the Cardiff Devils, in a game that ended 3-3. Brett Ferguson, Ian Watters, and Jez Lundin grabbing the Flames goals. Both sides were in action last weekend, Storm hosting Nottingham before travelling to Coventry, while the Flames had a Scottish double header against Braehead & Edinburgh. Storm overcame the Panthers in tight game in Altrincham, 2-1 in overtime, Dallas Ehrhardt and Matt Beca grabbing the Storm goals. This was followed up by a night to forget in Coventry, as the Blaze won 7-2. Guildford came away from Scotland with a 4-point weekend, with 5-3 and 7-2 victories over Braehead and Edinburgh, respectively. Goals from Kruise Reddick, Calle Ackered, Geoff Walker and a Ian Watters double secured the win over the Clan. This was followed by a big victory in Murrayfield on Sunday, as Liam Stewart and Brett Ferguson both scored doubles helping the Flames move up to fourth in the league table.

This is the third meeting of the season between the sides, with a further five coming up in the remaining fixtures. The points have gone to the home side in both of the previous matchups, Flames winning 6-4 in Guildford in October and Storm winning 6-5 in overtime at home in September. Goals from Luke Moffatt, Dane Byers, Jay Rosehill, Matt Stanisz, and a Mike Hammond double were enough to secure both points for the Storm, as the Flames had to settle for a single point. Ian Watters, Ben Davies, John Dunbar, Calle Ackered, and David Lilliestrom Karlsson scored the Flames goals on the night. The Flames got their revenge in Surrey in mid-October, helped by a Rhett Rachinski hattrick, a Calle Ackered double, and single goal from Kruise Reddick. Storm’s goals came from Matt Beca, Luke Moffatt, and Gerard Hanson in a high-scoring game.

Don’t forget Friday’s game is the Winter Classic, with the Storm wearing one-off jerseys that are being raffled off, while the game also sees the return of the teddy toss.

One to watch: John Dunbar has been a prolific points scorer for the Flames this season, picking up 42 points in 24 leagues games, including 33 assists.
