Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm take the short trip over the Pennines to take on local rivals the Sheffield Steelers in a 5:00 pm faceoff.

Both sides are coming in to the game after winning on Saturday night, the Storm overcoming the Blaze at home and the Steelers beating Nottingham in Sheffield. A four goal haul for Mike Hammond, and goals from Dane Byers, Ciaran Long, Matt Beca, and Scott Pitt were enough to secure a 9-1 victory over the Blaze at the Storm Shelter. The Steelers were involved in a tight game against the Panthers, eventually coming out on top 5-4 victors. Liam Kirk got the Steelers on the board in the first period, before Matt Marquardt, Jonas Westerling, and Andres Valdix scored in the second period. Mark Matheson secured the victory with just 5 seconds remaining in the game.

These results ensure the Storm stay 2 points ahead of the Steelers in the league table, although the Steelers have 2 games in-hand. The Storm currently sit in third place, one place ahead of the Steelers. Fife trail the Steelers by a solitary point, while Guildford are two points further back in sixth place.

This is the final visit to Sheffield for the Storm this regular season, and the third meeting between the sides in the league. Sheffield took the first meeting, shutting out the Storm at the FlyDSA arena in late-December. Robert Dowd got the scoring underway early on, before Andreas Valdix added to the score in the second period. Dowd rounded out the scoring in the third period as Ervins Mustukovs made a 28-save shutout. The second meeting required a shootout to separate the sides after the game ended 5-5. Steelers goals came from Roy, Franssila, Fretter, and Dowd, while Luke Moffatt scored a hattrick for the Storm, with Ryan Trenz and Gerard Hanson getting the other goals.

The Steelers have had some injury troubles recently, with Dowd, Fretter, and Armstrong missing games over the past few weeks, while the Storm have been missing Chris Auger.

One to watch: Youngster Liam Kirk has been making the news recently, attracting the attention of NHL scouts. Kirk is on a 5-game pointstreak, scoring 4 goals in the process.
