This Saturday 6th January see the Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm travel to Nottingham to take on the Panthers in a 7:00 pm faceoff, the third game in a busy week for the Storm.

Both sides were in action on Wednesday, in a night of contrasting fortunes for the teams. Manchester travelled to Fife for a game that ended 6-2 in favour of the Flyers in a tough night for the Storm. Goals came from Luke Moffatt and Andy McKinney, his first goal for the Storm being assisted by Ciaran Long. The Panthers host MK Lightning in the Challenge Cup, winning 6-2 to secure qualification for the semi-finals. Goals from Zack Phillips, Evan Mosey, Mark Derlago, David Clarke, and a Jeff Brown double were enough to overcome the Lightning. Both sides started the week with games on New Year’s Day, Panthers travelling to Coventry and Manchester hosting Sheffield. A pair of tight games saw Nottingham win 2-1 in Coventry and Manchester go down in a shootout against the Steelers. As a result of these games, Manchester are currently in seventh position, one point and one position below Nottingham who have two games in hand.

Both previous league meetings between the sides have ended as a tie after regulation, Storm eventually winning both games. Storm hosted Nottingham in mid-December, winning 2-1 in overtime. Robert Farmer put the Panthers ahead in the second period, after a scoreless first period. A third-period goal from Dallas Ehrhardt took the game to overtime, before Matt Beca scored in overtime to secure both points for the Storm. A big night for Michael Garnett and Mike Clemente saw them make a combine 55 saves. The sides met again just before Christmas in Nottingham, in a game that went all the way to penalty shots. Dane Byers got the scoring underway in the second period, only for Mathieu Brisebois to equalise 19 seconds later. There was no further scoring in the rest of the game and Matt Beca was the solitary penalty shot scorer, once again securing both points for the Storm.

One to watch: Jeff Brown grabbed a double on Wednesday, and his rough and tumble game always makes him stand out for the Panthers.
