Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm are back in action this Saturday for a Christmas trip to Nottingham to take on the Panthers in a 7 pm faceoff.

The Storm doused the Flames in Altrincham last night, winning 4-1 at home. A Mike Hammond double, and goals from Ciaran Long and Matt Beca put an end to Guildford’s 3-game league winning streak. Mike Clemente making 22 saves in an important Patton conference game. The Panthers traveled to Milton Keynes to take on the Lightning in a Challenge Cup quarter-final first leg fixture. A 2-1 Lightning victory leaves the tie finely poised going into the second leg. Mark Derlago’s powerplay marker was the only goal the Panthers managed in the game.

It was the same scoreline last weekend when the Panthers visited the Storm Shelter, Manchester securing a 2-1 victory, although overtime was required to separate the sides in a tight game. Goals from Robert Farmer and Dallas Ehrhardt took the game to the extra period, before Matt Beca secured both points with a powerplay goal. An impressive night for the netminders saw Mike Clemente make 30 saves in the Storm net, and Panthers netminder Mike Garnett making 25 saves.

After last night’s victory, the Storm move a single point behind the Panthers who are currently sitting in third with 32 points from 23 games. Manchester are tied with Guildford on 31 points from 25 games. A victory for either the Panthers or the Storm increases the pressure on the top two of Cardiff and Belfast. Panthers players Evan Mosey and Patrick Galbraith are both back in training after injury, but missed last night’s game, while the Storm should have Shane Bakker back after a 1-game suspension & minor injury.

One to watch: Mark Derlago is currently on a 4-game point streak, taking him to 26 points from 28 games.
