Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm are back in action this Sunday as they take the 200 mile trip to Guildford to take on the Flames in a Patton conference game that faces off at 6:00 pm.

Guildford come into the game fresh, having had a night off the previous evening. They traveled to Belfast on Friday to take on the Giants, eventually being edged out 5-4 in a game that swung on way, and then the other. Calle Ackered, Jess Craige, and John Dunbar getting powerplay goals while Mikael Lidhammar scored shorthanded. With Brian Stewart still out injured, the Flames brought in netminder Chris Carrozzi a few weeks ago. He made 46 saves in his second league game for the Flames. On Saturday night, it was the Storm’s turn to be involved in a tight game, as they beat the Fife Flyers 3-2 at home. Goals from Dane Byers, Ciaran Long, and Mike Hammond securing the 2-points for the home side, Mike Clemente turning away 29 shots in the Storm nets.

The sides have faced each other once before this season, Storm beating the Flames 6-5 at home in late September in a game that required overtime to separate the sides. The goals came in 2’s that night as Hammond and Moffatt got the scoring underway before Watters and Davies replied for the Flames. Byers and Hammond then put Storm 4-2 ahead before Dunbar and Ackered evened it up again in the second period. The final period saw scoring from Jay Rosehill and David Lilliestrom Karlsson and it was up to Matt Stanisz to secure both points for the Storm with an overtime marker.

Since that meeting, the Flames have been forced into making some changes due to injuries. Chris Carrozzi coming in as injury cover in nets, and Rasmus Edstrom signing this week after Karlsson picked up an injury that may not see him return to the Flames. Guildford also released Adam Jones and Sam Godfrey due to a lack of ice-time opportunities. On Friday night, in addition to Karlsson, Stewart, the Flames were also missing Charles Wells through injury. For the Storm, Jay Rosehill will miss the game through suspension and Chris Auger is yet to recover from his injury.

One to watch: John Dunbar has scored 7 goals and picked up 9 assists in 8 Elite League games, catching the eye of many already this season. The former Norfolk Admirals forward has added another 9 points in the Challenge Cup taking his total to 25 for the season.
