This Sunday sees a long road trip for The Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm as they travel to Cardiff to take on the Devils in an Elite League fixture, facing off at 6:00 pm.

Contrasting fortunes last night: It was a long, but fruitful, night at the Storm Shelter on Saturday as the Guildford Flames travelled up to Altrincham. Storm needed 64 minutes and 10 seconds to get the win as the game went into overtime, Matt Stanisz proving the hero as he grabbed the game-winning goal in a 6-5 victory. Earlier goals came from Mike Hammond, who got a double, Luke Moffatt, Dane Byers, and Captain Jay Rosehill in a game that bubbled over at times. Both Dallas Ehrhardt and Linden Springer earning major penalties, for roughing and spearing, respectively. The Devils travelled to Milton Keynes for a Challenge Cup game on Saturday night, going down 5-2 against the Lightning. Patrick Asselin grabbing a first period goal off a nice feed from Joey Martin, which evened the score up at 1-1. The Lightning then scored 3 goals straight, before Sean Bentivoglio got a consolation marker in the third period.

Devils look to build on last year’s success: After winning the League and Challenge Cup last season, the Devils retained 16 players for the 17/18 season. Over the summer, coach Andrew Lord added defencemen Drew Paris and Bryce Reddick, import forwards Paul Crowder and Matt Pope and signed Justin Faryna and Craig Moore from the Dundee Stars. Faryna has already started the season in good form, scoring 4 points in 5 League and Cup games, as well as having a fight against the Panthers.

For those not travelling, a webcast of the game can be found on icetime.tv or if you head to the Station Hotel, you’ll find the live stream on there!

One to watch: Three-time Elite League defenceman of the year Andrew Hotham is back for his fourth season in Cardiff. He was a constant thorn in the side of Manchester last season, scoring 8 assists in 4 league games against the Storm.
