Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm are back in action this Wednesday as they travel to Cardiff to take on the Devils in a 7:30 pm faceoff at Ice Arena Wales.

The Devils secured their second consecutive league title a week and a half ago, with victory over the Belfast Giants. They followed this up with a game at home against the Sheffield Steelers, eventually going down 4-3. Matt Pope, Layne Ulmer, and Justin Faryna grabbing the goals for the Devils, while Ben Bowns turned away 35 shots in a busy evening. The Storm travelled to Guildford on Saturday, going down 5-2 to the Flames before hosting the Nottingham Panthers in a game that required a shootout to separate the sides. Dane Byers and Luke Moffatt scored the only Storm goals on Saturday night, while goals from Matt Stanisz, Mike Hammond, and a late Scott Pitt goal took the game to overtime. Matt Beca and Dane Byers were the heroes in the shootout, scoring past Mike Garnett in the Panthers net.

The sides last met in early-March at the Storm Shelter in a game that saw the Storm come away 3-1 winners, despite being heavily outshot. A Matt Stanisz one-timer got the scoring underway in the first period after some good work from Matt Beca and Scott Pitt. The Storm double their lead early in the second thanks to Dane Byers before a Ciaran Long goal extended the lead in the third period. Patrick Asselin grabbed a late consolation goal for the Devils, breaking Mike Clemente’s shutout with 50 seconds left in the game. Clemente turned away 41 Devils shots in a good performance from the netminder. This takes the season record to 2-1 in favour of the Storm, with the Devils securing a mid-season overtime victory at the Storm Shelter. The previous meeting at Ice Arena Wales resulted in a 6-1 victory for the Storm. Goals from Matt Stanisz, Dallas Ehrhardt, Luke Moffatt, and a Chris Auger hattrick secured the points for the Storm.

For those not travelling, a webcast is available from icetime.tv.

One to watch: Andrew Hotham scored the title-winning goal against the Giants and has now taken his tally to 17 goals and 39 assists this season, making him the 20th highest point scorer in the league.
