On Tuesday afternoon Storm Captain, Trevor Johnson, and fan favourite Eric Neilson, made a surprise home visit to Manchester Storm fan, Tony Barrow.

At the age of 44, Tony was diagnosed with a highly malignant brain tumour (Grade 4 Glioblastoma). Tony will be commencing his treatment at Clatterbridge Hospital in July; this will be a combination of Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy.

Tony has two young daughters, Megan and Lucy and his wife Ann Marie. (Pic below)

Tony was always a very active sportsman & began his Rugby League career at Cronton before moving on to his local team, Thatto Heath. He then went on to sign for Oldham and play professionally. Tony finished his professional career at Swinton and also represented Lancashire. His passion for Rugby League did not end there and he went on to become Player/Coach with Portico Vine. Being a local Thatto Heath lad, Tony went back to his roots and laced up his boots to play with his friends in The Masters.

Tony was a very fit and active person who has always prided himself on helping others and giving what he can to those who need it most. He has displayed this with his endless charity work for the Steve Prescott foundation.

Tony has been a regular to the Storm games for a while now and loves coming to the Storm Shelter. When Tony’s niece, Beth Cunningham contacted Storm GM, Neil Russell, he wanted to do something special for the big Storm fan;

“Firstly, when Beth first got in touch with Tony’s story, it put everything in perspective. Here is a man that for all his life to date had been super active, heavily involved in the local community and sports, and his diagnosis put a halt to a lot of that in an instant. The least we could do was go & pay him a visit. We are so blessed here with the Storm that we have players who “get it” and when I relayed Tony’s story to the guys, Captain Trevor Johnson and Assistant player coach Eric Neilson were keen to go pay Tony a surprise visit to his house. I thank them both for doing that so willingly, and ALL of us at the Manchester Storm wish Tony well with his upcoming treatment in the summer”.
