Your Goodwin Group Manchester Storm suffered a disappointing 4-3 loss to Coventry Blaze on Saturday.

The annual ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ naturally brings with it pressure to score, as the hosts first goal is the signal for charitable donations to be thrown onto the ice. However, the home supporters didn’t wait long, when Gagnon’s well-placed wrist shot found its way into the Blaze goal. An evenly contested opening stanza from this point saw few chances created, as the Storm went into the first intermission 1-0 ahead.

A calamitous error from Matt Ginn gifted the visitors parity, when Broll tapped the puck into a vacant goal. Less than two minutes later, the Storm found themselves ahead again with Hughesman taking full advantage of a fortunate ricochet. The tumultuous nature of the middle period continued with Coventry scoring two goals in quick succession. The tallies from Laakkonen and Corcoran sent the Blaze ahead 3-2 with one period remaining.

The final period was disappointing from a Storm perspective, with few scoring chance, as they were successfully kept out by the Blaze defence. A clinical counter-attack from the visitors saw Corcoran complete claim his second goal at 49:22. Despite a late consolation goal from Cam Critchlow at 59:51, it was Blaze that secured the vital two points.

On Sunday the Storm bounced back, securing a victory on the road against Nottingham Panthers 3-2 – goals from Ulmer, Samuelsson and Balmer. These two road points prove crucial ahead of the busy festive period…

Man of the Match for Manchester Storm went to Mathieu Gagnon.
Man of the Match for Coventry Blaze went to Charles Corcoran.
