Your Go Goodwins Sponsored Manchester Storm are back at the Storm Shelter this Saturday, facing off against the Edinburgh Capitals in a Gardiner Conference clash at 7 pm.

The Capitals have started the season strongly, having secured Challenge Cup qualification for the first time in their history, but now the focus returns to Elite League points that are on offer. Edinburgh currently sit 4th in the Gardiner conference after 2 games, with their 2 points coming from a shootout victory in the last game against the Storm, Pavel Vorobyev getting the winning penalty shot in that game.

Both teams will be looking to take advantage this weekend of their powerplay opportunities. Special teams is a key area of the game, which can often play a large part in deciding the outcome of a match. Storm are currently sitting at a respectable 17.8% powerplay success rate in their competitive games this season, with the Capitals slightly behind on 16%. On the penalty kill, Storm have a 73.6% success rate and the Capitals have 71.4%.

The Storm come into the game off the back of a Jekyll and Hyde performance last weekend. A game to forget in Fife on Saturday was followed by a momentous effort at home against the Nottingham Panthers. Goals coming from Mark Heatley and Darian Dziurzynski taking the game to OT and securing the Storm another vital point in pursuit of Challenge Cup qualificiation, but it was the Panthers who grabbed the extra point on the night after getting the penalty shot winner. The Capitals on the other hand had only a solitary game last weekend. They went behind early against Braehead, a recurring theme for the Caps so far this season, but goals from Milan and Staal were not enough to overcome the Clan as the Caps went down 5-2 in the end.

The last game between the two teams took penalty shots to decide the outcome, and this one could be another tense one. Matt Bissonnette will be back in the Storm lineup which will provide a huge boost to the team. “Biz” has quickly become an integral part of the Storm lineup, and his presence has been missed the last few weeks as he recovered from injury. He will be itching to get back out on the ice, and Storm fans will be excited to see #73 back out there again in Storm colours! Edinburgh have been missing Karel Hromas through injury recently and will be hoping he makes a return this weekend.

ONE TO WATCH: Netminder Travis Fullerton has been in top form for the Capitals this season. Posting a save percentage of 92.1% he gives Edinburgh an opportunity to win every game.
