Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm are back in the Storm Shelter in Challenge Cup action this Sunday 3rd September, facing off against the Braehead Clan in the second of the home-and-home series at 5:30 pm.

First blood to the Clan: The sides faced off last night in Braehead in an entertaining, end-to-end battle, from which Braehead emerged victorious 7-5. Clan raced to a 2-0 lead through Jacob Doty and Mike Embach, both scoring on the powerplay. Storm clawed it back to take a 3-2 lead thanks to Mike Hammond, Matt Bissonnette, and Dane Byers, the latter two converting on powerplay opportunities. It was then Braehead’s turn to convert on the powerplay again, once again thanks to Mike Embach, before Jacob Doty got his second of the evening to make it 4-3 to the Clan at the end of the second period. The final period saw Storm goals from Dane Byers and Matt Beca, but Cameron Burt, Christoffer Bjorklund, and an Adam Brace empty-net goal secured a 7-5 victory for the Clan. Whilst not the result that the Storm wanted, there were some positives to take from the first competitive fixture of the 2017/18 season.

Instant payback for the Storm?: Sunday evening provides the ideal opportunity for either the Storm to get one back over the Clan, or for Braehead to double down and take an early 4-point lead in the Challenge Cup standings. Both coaches will have taken positives from last night’s game, in particular both offences were in good form, however improvements will be sought in defence in an effort to reduce the number of goals conceded. Last night’s game had a bit of everything and was full of end-to-end action, and it looks like it’s going to be another barnstormer at the Storm Shelter on Sunday evening.

One to watch: Ryan Nie pulled off a number of good stops to help Braehead grab both points on Saturday evening. The Ontario-born netminder followed Coach Tripp from the German DEL2 and has impressed already in his short time in the Elite League.
