Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm are back in mid-week action this Wednesday 8th March as they travel up to Glasgow to take on the Braehead Clan in a 7:30 pm faceoff.

It’s another big game as the playoff push continues for the Storm, who are now in 9th position in the league with 39 points from 46 games. Storm are 1 point behind Dundee in 8th and 2 points behind Coventry, who have played 2 games extra. Braehead secured the Gardiner conference title a short time ago, and are currently in fifth place in the league, a single point behind the Nottingham Panthers who have 50 points. With a playoff place already safe, the Clan will be looking to build momentum before the playoffs.

Last weekend: It was a frustrating weekend for the Storm as they came up short against the top two teams in the league. Friday night saw the visit of the Cardiff Devils to the Storm Shelter, and it was the Challenge Cup winners who took both points. Darian Dziurzynski got the scoring underway after just 2 minutes, scoring from a Cody Cartier feed. The Devils then scored 3 unanswered goals, before Mark Heatley got a late powerplay snipe with 4 minutes left in the game. Mike Clemente was pulled but it was Cardiff who got the late goal to secure a 4-2 victory. Storm then travelled to Belfast, but succumbed 5-2 to the Giants. Trevor Johnson and Adam Harding, his fourth of the season, grabbing the goals before Belfast scored a late empty-net goal. It was a frustrating weekend for the Clan as well, who went down 5-4 in Nottingham and 4-1 in Dundee. Stefan Della Rovere, Matt Beca, Scott Pitt, and Mike Hammond got the goals in the game, and it was an impressive performance for Gary Russell in net who took over the goaltending duties after 20 minutes. Cody Carlson got the solitary goal on Saturday night against Dundee, and Gary Russell started in net making 37 saves in total.

Clan – Storm games this season: This is the 8th and final meeting between the sides this season, and Braehead currently have the upper hand 5-2. Darian Dziurzynski has top-scored for the Storm in the meetings, scoring 5 goals and 2 assists in 6 games. Matt Bissonnette as 4 goals and 2 assists in the 7 meetings, while Jack Prince and Taylor Dickin both have 5 points. For the Clan it’s been the Beca & Pitt show, Pitt scoring 4 goals and 9 assists and Beca getting 5 goals and 6 assists in the 7 matchups so far. In nets, Mike Clemente has turned away 213 shots while Zajkowski and Russell have combined for 185 saves.

One to watch: Matt Beca has 25 goals and 44 assists this season, and is currently on a 14-game pointstreak. The 5’10” forward has linked up well with Scott Pitt, and the two have had a lethal partnership at times.
